Sifat Pemampatan dan Perubahan Volume Suatu Jenis Tanah Pada Saat Menerima Beban (Uji Konsolidasi)

Pemanfaatan lempung lunak sebagai material dalam pekerjaan geoteknik telah banyak dilakukan. Baik sebagai bahan timbunan, sebagai lapisan impermeable pada dam, pondasi atau sebagai pelapis pada dinding landfill untuk tempat pembuangan akhir. Walaupun diketahui bahwa keadaan lempung sangat di pengaruhi oleh kadar air dan kepadatan lempung tersebut. Namun dengan semakin banyaknya permintaan pekerjaan perbaikan tanah memungkinkan lempung lunak digunakan sebagai bahan konstruksi. Karakteristik lempung lunak adalah memiliki kuat geser yang rendah, indeks kompresibilitas tinggi, dan koefisien permeabilitas yang rendah serta batas cair yang tinggi. Perubahan kadar air dari lempung lunak yang jenuh menjadi salah satu penyebab perubahan sifat mekanis tanah lempung. Pada grafik diperoleh nilai Cc sebesar 0,880. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa semakin besar nilai Cc, maka semakin besar pula perubahan nilai angka porinya.
